Darby Summers embraces his work at the Snoqualmie Fire Department a day at a time.

Summers joined the Snoqualmie Fire Department as a volunteer and has been working as a firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) for three years.

Although the work is full of grueling tasks, Summers said the hard work is just one way to give back to his community.

With all the excitement that goes along with being a firefighter, Summers said there’s one aspect of the job that is foremost in his mind.

“It is helping people, which is most important to myself. It is an incredible feeling to be able to help someone in times of trouble, this makes the job fulfilling,” he said.

Summers has been a resident of the Snoqualmie Valley his entire life and loves contributing to the community, which helped raise him.

“It is a great group of guys and that is very important to the job also, because it is always fun to come to work,” he said.

The community involvement in a job like firefighting allows work to feel extremely emotionally satisfying. Summers considers helping to protect the community a privilege.

“In such a close community it is nice to always be there to help. Being someone who has always wanted to be a firefighter, I enjoy every day of my work,” said Summers. “It is also nice to know everyone in the community, which makes the job all the more special.”
