Track

Mount Si wins meet

The Mount Si girls’ track team defeated Mercer Island (80-76) and Cedarcrest (80-31) last week.

Piper Sherbon had a personal best of 17 feet, 6 inches to win the long jump. She won the shot with a throw of 34 feet, 8 inches and the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Sherbon also placed second in the discus.

Kristen Berndt won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.3 seconds and the javelin with a throw of 121 feet, 6 inches. She also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.7 seconds.

Caitlin Braun won the discus with a throw of 124 feet, 1 inch and teammate Nicole Remish won the 200 in a time of 27.3 seconds.

Berndt, Remish, Monica Nelson and Jordan Tipton won the 4×100 relay in a time of 52.4 seconds.

Vanessa Scalzo had a personal best time of 2:36.3 in the 800 and Devan Paulus won the pole vault with a height of 8 feet even. The 4×400 relay team of Aarianne Barr, Krisi Lund, Collete Hatch and Scalzo ran a season’s best time of 4:36 to place second.

Barb Holm also ran two personal bests in both the 800 and 1,600.


Track men defeat Cedarcrest

The Mount Si boys’ track team beat Cedarcrest 69.5 to 22 but fell short of defeating Mercer Island’s 87.5 points.

Michael Keller and Brandon Yakaboski scored second- and third-place finishes in the 110-meter high hurdles while teammate Brady Barry took top honors in the 100 and second in the 200.

Barry led off the second-place relay team as well with Adam Rothgeb, Toby Jones and Justice Manson in a season best time of 45.6 seconds.

Rothgeb won the 300-meter hurdles, then won the 4×400 relay with Conrad Haustveit, Steven Johnson and Stefan Marth with a season’s best time of 3:39.5.

Brad Allen took first in the 3,200 with a time of 10:37.9 improving his personal record by 25 seconds.

In the field events, the boys had a dominate showing. Kyle Meuli finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 2 3/4 inches and third in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 8 1/2 inches. Manson edged out Meuli in the triple jump for second place with a distance of 37 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

In the high jump, Mount Si took first, second and third with Alex Grazda, Brandon Yakaboski and Keith Keller.

Eric Tierney had two impressive throws in the shot and disc to win both. His distance in the shot was 42 feet, 4 inches and in the discus was 131 feet, 10 inches. Michael Keller took third in the shot with a toss of 39 feet, 7 inches and second in the javelin with a throw of 158 feet, 1 inches. Grazda won the javelin with a throw of 162 feet, 8 inches.

Finally, Steven Johnson took third in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet.

Soccer

JV defeats Issaquah

A lone goal by Aaron Duncan was all it took for the Mount Si JV boys’ soccer team to defeat Issaquah 1-0 last week.


Mount Si falls to Totems

The Mount Si JV soccer team faced a strong opponent in Sammamish last week, losing 8-2. The Wildcats’ goals were scored by Steven Grace and Nate Storrs.

‘Cats defeat Red Wolves

The Mount Si JV soccer team stuck it to its Lower Valley rivals in soccer action last week 3-0. Steven Grace scored a goal on an assist by Peter Olson. Ruji Waltan-House scored a goal on a direct kick from a Cedarcrest penalty and Grace scored the final goal with a shot to the upper corner.


Softball

‘Cats defeat Islanders

The Mount Si JV softball team had only four hits in their game against Mercer Island, but they had seven stolen bases to win 10-8. Sophie Hart pitched two scoreless innings in relief as Lynnae McKiernan picked up the win. Alicia Elmore had a good game with four defensive outs. Kalie Walker scored twice. The win gives the ‘Cats a 10-5 record.

Tennis

JV team wraps up season

The Mount Si JV girls’ tennis team played its last match of the season against a strong Newport team. Daisy Ponce won her singles match 8-4 and the team of Janelle Campbell and Rosie Lockie won their doubles match 9-7 in a tie breaker. Overall the team won 50 games over the season.


Golf

Mount Si falls to Skyline

The future Kingco 4A Skyline golf team defeated the Mount Si girls’ 293-265 last week in varsity golf action. Jess Sanford was low for Mount Si shooting a 52. Other scores were, Rachel Keinath with a 59, Shannon Kelley with a 59, Alyssa Bliven with a 61, Katie Stapleton with a 62, Whitney Eand with a 63, Becky Wada with a 64 and Mary Mickelson with a 65.


Wildcat golfers end season

Mount Si ended its regular golf season last week as the lady Wildcats defeated Sammamish 267 to 267. They won because not enough Totem golfers could play in the tie breaker.

Leading the effort for Mount Si was Jess Sanford shooting a 45, followed by Rachel Keinath with a 53. Whitney Eand shot a 54, while teammate Mary Mickelson shot a 57. Becky Wada shot a 58, Shannon Kelley shot a 59, Chelsea Shelson shot a 60 and Alyssa Bliven shot a 61.
