Paper shouldn’t have published cartoon

How dare you! How dare you the artist, and you the newspaper, draw and publish the Oct. 18 editorial cartoon depicting a commercial jetliner labeled “I-747” about to nosedive into the capital building in Olympia!

I-747 is an attempt by the citizens of Washington to free themselves, if but only by a little bit, from the oppressive yoke of taxation. This is being done democratically through the initiative process provided for by our state’s Constitution.

How much more disrespectful could you possibly be to the innocent people who died on Sept. 11 than to use their horrific deaths in this tasteless manner? This editorial cartoon is an unconscionable attempt to paint the supporters of I-747 as evil terrorists in the same vein as those who destroyed the World Trade Center buildings and killed thousands of innocent people.

Unconscionable and tasteless do not begin to describe how disgusting this cartoon is. There are some lines in political discourse that you just don’t cross, and this is most certainly one of them. How hate-filled, intolerant and desperate must you be?
