Fall City student earns scholarship

Western Washington University student Austin Anderson, son of Patrick Anderson and Patricia Anderson of Fall City, received a $500 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.

President’s Scholarships are awarded to approximately the top 8 to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students, and are based on superior academic achievement.

Anderson, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.61 grade point average at Mount Si High School, and is interested in Western’s Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies. Anderson was honored as a National Merit Commended Scholar and worked as a pharmacy assistant. His professional goals include a career in law.

Children to make magic at show

For 4- to 5-year-olds, the Encompass Main Campus in North Bend is the place to be from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 20, for a magical morning, full of fun, intrigue and the chance to interact with and learn from a locally-based, professional magician.

At “Make Magic at Encompass,” children will have the opportunity to enjoy a magic show close-up and ask the magician to reveal his top secrets. After the show, children will experience a hands-on workshop and learn to perform their own tricks.

Presented by Philip & Henry Amazing Magicians, this workshop has a fee of $25. To register, call (425) 888-2777.

Flood center closing in Issaquah

The federal disaster recovery center in Issaquah is expected to close Thursday, March 5, but people can file claims afterward over the phone or online.

The center has been operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administratio, which offers low-interest loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private, non-profit organizations.

The deadline to register with FEMA and SBA for most federal assistance is March 31.

Loans from SBA to replace personal property are available to renters and homeowners, who can also apply for loans to repair or replace their primary residence.

Busineses can apply for SBA loans to cover physical damage and economic injury from damaged inventory and lost revenue caused by disaster.

Connor serving

as Army recruiter

Army Sgt. Gary M. Connor has arrived for duty at the Boulder Recruiting Station, Colo.

Connor, a recruiter with six years of military service, is assigned to the Denver Army Recruiting Battalion.

He is the son Chris and Betty Connor of Fall City.

Connor graduated in 2004 from Mount Si High School.
