Youth learn history and traditions with tribute

That is what we did this Memorial Day at the Preston, Fall City and North Bend cemeteries and also at the Mount Si football field memorial. We paid tribute and honored our fallen veterans. This event is sponsored every year on Memorial Day by American Legion Post No. 79 and Auxiliary from Snoqualmie and the VFW Post and Auxiliary No. 9497, also of Snoqualmie.

Several Scouts and others took part in these services as well. Both the American Legion and the VFW would like to thank the Girl and Cub Scouts for their tremendous participation in this event.

It is truly wonderful to see these younger generations taking part in this type of service. Not only did they help by carrying flags, they also walked around the cemeteries, learning about some of the veterans’ graves and the different types of markers for veterans as well as different types of headstones from different wars. Some of them at the Fall City Cemetery even learned a little bit about the history of the Snoqualmie Valley by seeing some of the graves of our founders.

Assisting with the services were girls from Girl Scout Troop No. 1779, Kirsten Wunder and Caitlin Donnelly; Cub Scouts from Pack 452, Alex Wunder, Ryan Donnelly, Joseph Hays, Nathan Shive, Zac Miller, Hunter Todd and Patrick Shive, along with their leaders. Shayla Volland, Junior American Legion Auxiliary member, and Daryan Boyle from the VFW Auxiliary placed wreaths at the memorials.

Thanks to all who helped and also to the public who came to observe these ceremonies and pay tribute with us.
