The week in Mount Si softball

Mount Si varsity softball played every day last week at home at Mount Si High School and came out 3-2 for the week.
Mount Si 8, Interlake 3
A wild first inning set up a victory for Mount Si over Interlake last Monday. Amy Trenkamp recovered from her first-inning struggles to pitch a fine four innings and “King County Journal Athlete of the Week” Kandis Clesson no-hit the Saints over the final three innings to seal the win.
Interlake scored three times against Trenkamp in the first. The key blow was Bryn Gibson’s two- run single. The Wildcats responded with five runs against Interlake starting pitcher Laura Flint in the bottom of the first, led by a two-run triple by Tabitha Albertson. Capitalizing on a couple of walks the Wildcats scored three more times against Flint in the fifth.
“I was really proud of the way my team responded, ’cause it was a day that I was really concerned about how flat we came out. We kind of answered the three and never looked back,” said Mount Si coach Larry White.
Flint pitched a valiant six-inning effort for Interlake despite giving up the eight runs and throwing with what appeared to be an injured right hip.
Flint was not the only major Interlake injury. Starting catcher Lindsay Church suffered a hand injury in the bottom of the second, but she stayed in the game, eventually leaving in the bottom of the fourth. She was replaced by Gibson.
