Violet O. Malloy
Violet O. Malloy of North Bend passed away at Evergreen hospice on Friday, May 18, 2012. She was 93.Violet was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on April 13, 1919. She outlived all her siblings, and was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Glenn, and her eldest daughter, Jacqueline Metcalf of California. Violet has four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Violet was very talented musically and artistically. She made several large carvings while in her fifties using chisel and mallet, one being a six foot totem pole, and enjoyed many arts and crafts. During her later years, she began making her “hobbies” of refrigerator magnet frogs, white and grey mice magnets, and her “southern belle” mice. Her greatest joy was giving these away to complete strangers at stores and local restaurants, and she was very proud that by doing that, her frogs had travelled to 37 states as well as to many countries around the world. Knowing that this “gift” was often a ray of sunshine in someone’s life was extremely meaningful to her. Nothing would make her happier than for her legacy to be that those she touched would pass on acts of kindness and selfless giving to family, friends, and strangers in remembrance of her.
