Local churches are now collecting donations of school supplies, backpacks and new shoes, to provide to children in need, grades K to 12, in August. The annual drive, for children who live in the Snoqualmie Valley School District, distributed 320 backpacks last year.

Families can sign up now for the program at the Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank. The food bank, located at 122 E. Third St., North Bend, is accepting registration for the program each Wednesday through Aug. 3. Children must register and include the grade level they’ll be in for the 2016-17 school year.

Supplies will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the food bank on Wednesdays, Aug. 17 and 24.

Donations of school supplies can be dropped off:

In North Bend:

Mount Si Lutheran Church, 411 N.E. Eighth St.;

Cascade Covenant Church, 13225 436th Ave. S.E.;

In Snoqualmie:

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 39025 S/E. Alpha St.;

St. Clare’s Episcopal Church, 8650 Railroad Ave.; and

Snoqualmie United Methodist Church, 38701 S.E. River St.

Donations of new shoes for children ages 5 to 18 can be dropped off at Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church.

To donate funds to the drive, make checks out to Mount Si Lutheran School Backpack Project, and mail them to Mount Si Lutheran Church, c/o Jane Benson, P.O. Box 487, North Bend WA, 98045.

All donations are due by Friday, Aug. 12.
