Cedarcrest High School’s Aaron Davenport was one of eight students selected last June to join the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Leadership through Education, Activities, and Personal Development (LEAP) program. LEAP is a student-driven organization consisting of student leaders from WIAA-affiliated schools throughout the state.
Davenport is the first Cedarcrest student ever to be chosen to join the organization, formed in 2009.
Heading into his junior year, Davenport will serve two terms on the LEAP Committee and be involved with WIAA events, meetings and community projects. He will also have the opportunity to be a voice for Washington’s nearly 230,000 student athletes.
The group will meet several times during the school year, conducting leadership exercises, leading peer discussions, organizing and arranging guest speakers, providing mentoring and other tasks, all in a leadership capacity.
A record number, more than 110 students, applied for this opportunity. Since 2009, 58 students have graduated high school as LEAP committee members.
