‘Cats are undefeated
The Mount Si Wildcat “C” soccer team hosted the Newport Knights last week and notched another win with a score of 3 – 0, bringing the total to 13 wins and no losses.
Ashley Holmes scored the first goal, drilling it past the Newport keeper. Jeannie Frantz kept the scoring going when she skillfully placed the ball into the corner of the net.
Amy Trenkamp finished the scoring with an incredible kick that sent the ball over the keeper’s head and into the top of the net.
The strong defensive line, led by Brittaney Crowe and Nicole Campbell, denied the Knights any points.
“C” soccer undefeated
Despite a cold and rainy final game of the season, the Mount Si Wildcats’ “C” soccer team ended the season with 14 wins and no losses, tying Mercer Island 2 – 2 in their final outing.
Ashley Holmes began the scoring with a beautiful cross into the net. Mount Si led 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, a determined Islander team roared back to life, scoring two goals. But Mount Si wasn’t finished as they began a relentless pounding of the Islander goal. Finally, with 10 minutes remaining, Kelsey Lamon picked up a cross ball and scored to tie the game.
The ‘Cats’ defense kept the pressure up to assure the game ended in a tie. Congratulations to Amy Stauch and Kelsey Lamon for being named players of the week.
Links men take third at district’s
The Mount Si boys’ golf team competed in the district tournament last week at Wing Point Country Club on Bainbridge Island. The team put in a strong showing, taking third out of 23 teams.
Sean Armstrong led the way with a two over par 73. Brandon Proudfoot also did well with a 75, and Derek Lee shot a 76. Teammate Eric Larson finished with a 79.
Armstrong, Proudfoot and Lee each qualified for the state tournament, which will take place next spring at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.
JV soccer team ties Indians
Tia Chelgren scored the only goal for Mount Si as they tied the Issaquah Indians last week 1-1. Issaquah did answer Chelgren’s goal, but the Wildcat defense kept the Indians from scoring again. Mount Si pounded the Issaquah goal but failed to score again.
JV football team wins
The Wildcat junior varsity football team defeated Interlake last week 12-8. Curtis Dorr ran for the first score followed by a Brad Trombley fumble recovery and touchdown for the second score.
Evan Hillburn led the team as quarterback, completing six passes. Ben Johanson helped seal the victory in the final minutes of the game with a clutch interception. The team ended the season with a two-win, six-loss record.
Team ends season
A gutsy performance wasn’t quite enough to knock off the Skyline Spartans last week as the ‘Cats’ JV football team lost 7-6. Evan Hillburn connected on a 40-yard bomb to Josh Harris, but the team came up short on the conversion. The team ended the season with a two-win, six-loss record.
Girls honored with all-league selection
Six Mount Si Wildcat varsity soccer players were named to the KingCo all-league teams. Liz Finnegan, Angela Jones, Erin Vassar and Ariel Waddell were named honorable mentions. Whitney Chelgren was named to the second team and Kristen Berndt was named as a first-team player. Congratulations to all candidates.
