North Bend Theatre owner Brian Slover passes away

NORTH BEND – The North Bend Theatre screens are dark as the community mourns the passing of its co-owner, Brian Slover, a man known for his strong convictions and lifelong love of movies. Slover passed away in his sleep at the age of 41 on April 17.

“He was just a great lover of life,” said brother Kevin Slover. “He was just a quality guy.”

Slover, a 1979 graduate of Lake Washington High School, had been interested in movies long before he and his wife of more than 20 years, Karlene, purchased the rundown North Bend Theatre in 1999.

“Since he was a kid he’d loved making movies and watching movies,” said Brian’s sister, Deborah Ferguson.

Armed with a Super 8 camera, Brian and Kevin began making their own films in elementary school. Popular topics for the homemade epics ranged from action-adventure to stories of war. When the duo set out to do a film about Icarus, the Greek mythology figure who flew toward the sun and found his wings melted, the two drove down to a South Seattle chicken factory to acquire feathers to glue on the cardboard cutouts to be placed on their shoulders.
