The Snoqualmie Valley School District is one of 10 districts in Washington state, and among the 425 school districts nationwide, to earn the 2015 Advanced Placement (AP) District Honor Roll award.
In addition, Snoqualmie Valley is also the only school district in the state — and one of only five in the U.S. — to be recognized on the AP District Honor Roll for the past six consecutive years.
The Riverview School District was also named to this year’s list.
Each year, the national College Board recognizes school districts on the AP District Honor Roll for increasing participation in courses for a broader number of students, while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the rate at which its AP students earn scores of three or higher (out of five) on AP exams.
Snoqualmie Valley School District Superintendent Joel Aune said “To attain this level of achievement for six consecutive years is an extraordinary accomplishment. For a number of years now, we have been working to build more rigor into our programs and provide more opportunities for students to pursue challenging courses of study. Expanding the number of AP course offerings and encouraging students to consider them is one strategy that appears to paying off for many of our students.”
Inclusion on the AP District Honor Roll is based on examination of three years of AP data, from 2013 to 2015, looking across 34 AP exams including world language and culture.
Qualifying districts had to:
- Increase participation/access to AP by at least 11 percent;
- Increase or maintain the percentage of exams taken by black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian/Alaska Native students; and,
- Improve performance levels when comparing the 2015 percentage of students scoring a three or higher to the 2013 percentage.
