Spotted smile

Max Goldberg, 4, created a red-faced scarecrow with striped shirt and polka-dotted face. Do scarecrows get chicken pox? Max also placed stickers from around the world on his piece, and dated it “2008.” Max is the son of parents Diana and Zach of Bellevue and grandson of Steve and Joyce Goldberg of North Bend.

Colored corn

Tyler Koukol, 4, of North Bend, colored his wild scarecrow a patchwork of bright colors. Ears of maize were green, red and purple “because I forgot what color corn was,” he said. Max is the son of Dana and Brent Kaukol.

Realistic

scarecrow

Kaya Furulie, 8, of Snoqualmie, drew a natural-looking scarecrow in greens, browns and oranges, “because she just wanted to.” Kaya is the daughter of Valley residents Bethany Coulic and Caycee Furulie.

Dozens of young artists grabbed crayons, markers and stickers for the Downtown Snoqualmie Candy Harvest coloring contest, held Halloween week at participating merchants. Picking the best entries, by a Valley Record staff vote, was tough, but a few colorful creations stood out.
