Chief Kanim wins

The Chief Kanim Hawks went into Wednesday night’s 8th grade

“Battle of the Birds” game as an

underdog, taking on the Snoqualmie Eagles. However, when the mud had

subsided and the field had cleared, the Hawks had the 8-0 victory.

Chief Kanim shut down Snoqualmie’s first drive when

Kris Bostic intercepted a pass and returned it 25 yards. The Hawks then

attempted a field goal, but the snap was high. In the second period, the Hawks

recovered an Eagle fumble and marched down the field. Curtis Dorr took

the ball to the 1-yard line on a flanker reverse; on the next play, Mike

Lindor punched into the end zone for a touchdown. Lindor added the extra

point, giving Chief Kanim an 8-0 lead.

In the second half, Chief Kanim’s defense remained tough as they

repeatedly shut down Snoqualmie, while the Hawk offense mounted

several time-consuming drives. The game ended with Chief Kanim on the

march, sealing the victory.

The Hawks played a near-perfect game, not turning the ball over

and eating up the clock during the offensive series. Lindor lead the team

with 11 tackles and Trevor Sleeman had a career game with 10 tackles and

a fumble recovery. Other leading tacklers were Gary Conner with eight,

Eric McCammon with six, and Bostic and Tyler Strandjord with four.

Jimmy Fleming also had a fumble recovery for the Hawks.

The coaches couldn’t be more pleased with the continued

improvement of this team, which won its last two games while outscoring

opponents 28-0. The 1999 8th grade Hawks finished at 2-4, and celebrated

their end of season success with a team banquet after school last Friday.
