Questions on water moratorium

Microsoft is populating a new campus at High Point, just east of Issaquah. In order to secure approval for this development, the city of Issaquah had to tap into the Seattle water supply by way of the Bellevue water system. This was accomplished within the time frame of the North Bend water moratorium, at about the time North Bend was denied the option of tapping into Seattle water.

The Miller family, owners of Tollgate, has the political connections to resolve North BendOs water issue. Indeed, Tollgate cannot develop until the water moratorium is abated. I challenge the mayor, the city administrator and the city treasurer to refute the following contention by publishing status quo projections of receipts and disbursements in the Valley Record: the city of North Bend cannot survive fiscally beyond year 2003 unless the water moratorium issue is put to bed.

If the residents of North Bend pass the “save Tollgate” bond issue, they may ironically be creating the means whereby they will lose control over the destiny of the city wherein they live. If after 2003 the city becomes part of unincorporated King County, or Snoqualmie, it will be voters in other jurisdictions who will determine the future of North Bend.
