Mount Si boys’ hoops in for a busy summer
The Mount Si High School boys’ basketball program has a busy summer lined up. Starting things off in June, the Wildcats’ summer team, consisting of players from within the Mount Si program, will be playing games in a league at Seattle University. Games in this summer league are mostly on Mondays and Wednesdays, from June 2-June 30. The junior varsity and “C” teams also will have summer play during the same time frame at Skyline High School in Sammamish.
Following the summer league, the Wildcats will be busy learning new skills and raising money to support the program. From June 27-July 3, the team will be sponsoring a fireworks stand in Maple Valley, along Highway 169 where it goes underneath Highway 18; then at the end of June Mount Si will travel to Gonzaga University in Spokane to participate in a team camp run by the Bulldog men’s basketball program.
Considering how good Gonzaga has been the last several years, this will likely be a great experience for the Wildcat players.
The team’s summer schedule wraps up Aug. 13 with another fund-raiser, its golf tournament, which will be held at the Mount Si Golf Course in Snoqualmie.
Girls’ soccer meeting at high school
There will be a meeting at Mount Si High School May 27 for athletes and their parents who are involved in the girls’ soccer program. The 5:30 p.m. meeting, hosted by coach Darren Brown, will cover summer conditioning, workouts and the try-out information for the team in the fall. Those interested in turning out for the team in the fall, including incoming freshmen, are invited to come.
Girls’ basketball in for two, big summer events
Mount Si’s girls basketball summer program will be hosting a 16-team varsity tournament June 12-13 at the high school. Teams from all over the state will be competing in a pool play format. The program will also be hosting a camp July 5-8, also at Mount Si. The camp is open to girls grades 3-9, and costs $55. For more information about the camp, call coach Dirk Hansen at the high school. He can be reached at (425) 831-8172.
