It came down to the wire, and Woodinville’s Luke Houser beat Mount Si’s Joe Waskom by a thousandth of a second to win the 4A KingCo cross country title on Oct. 18 at Lake Sammamish State Park.

According to athletic.net, both boys notched times of 15:17.32 and Redmond coach Denis Villeneuve noted that Houser won by a thousandth in the camera-timed 5K race.

Mount Si’s boys took second behind Redmond (37-85) and the Wildcats qualify for state on Nov. 3 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Other Wildcat runners were Paul Talens (10th, 16:17.52), Austin Gappa (15th, 16:33.22), Tychon Preston (24th, 16:48.65), Spencer Sprague (34th, 17:05.18), Luke Harper (35th, 17:05.49) and Jack Pratapas (39th, 17:12.42).

Wildcat Addie Kaess, who finished 17th in 19:52.04 in the girls race, also makes state.
