The King County Library System is featuring a free public program of contemporary portraits and conversation in three libraries in December, including the Snoqualmie Library, 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3.

Speaker and photographer Matika Wilbur of Seattle, of Swinomish and Tulalip Tribe descent, will discuss and illustrate her work on Project 562, a multi-year project to photograph Native Americans.

Wilbur has been on the road since 2012 on a mission to photograph members of all 562 (now 566) federally recognized tribal groups.

She discusses “Project 562”with selected photographs from her collection.

“Changing the Way We See Native America” is a 45-minute presentation of Wilbur’s photographs, followed by a ‘talking circle’ about dismantling stereotypes, the power of imagery in shaping our understanding, and challenging questions about audience awareness of indigenous people and traditional knowledge.

The free program will also be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Burien Library, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Auburn Library.
