Amazing Pet Contest returns to Festival at Mount Si

Pets of all kinds will get a chance to show off their hidden talents at the 2016 Festival at Mount Si’s Amazing Pet Contest.

Held at the community stage, the Amazing Pet Contest is free to join and accepts all types of animals in its two categories, best costume or best trick.

Pet contest organizer Jody Carr said the event, which is sponsored by Carriage Insurance and Pet Place Market, will award the top three entrants in each category with gift certificates to Pet Place Market. First place earns $100, second place earns $75 and third place earns $50.

“It’s not just dogs, it could be goats, pigs and chickens have shown up before. It will be a lot of fun,” Carr said. “I volunteered to do the pet contest. We are kind of crazy about dogs, pets in general. Any time we can be a part of anything pet related we sign on.”

This is Carr’s first year volunteering with Festival at Mount Si. Her husband Doug is also volunteering for the first time this year as the community stage manager.

“We are both new to the Festival at Mount Si and we are just amazed at all the moving parts that the festival takes,” she said. “Ours is a pretty small piece, but we get the fun part.”

Carr said a panel of judges will be evaluating each of the pets on the style of their costumes and tricks.

“We have three representatives from Pooch Play and we are hoping to have one representative from Pet Place Market and still looking to recruit one or two more,” she said.

The Amazing Pet Contest will begin registration at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday and the event begins at 4 p.m.

“It’s been real popular in past years and we are hoping it will be popular this year, too,” Carr said. “We are really excited about it.”
