Snoqualmie begins search for new chief; approves offer for riverside property

Snoqualmie’s search for a new police chief has begun. At the Snoqualmie City Council meeting on July 11, the council approved a recruitment services agreement with the Prothman Company to conduct the search for candidates.

The Prothman Company is an Issaquah-based consulting firm that conducts national staffing searches. Robert Carden, a former police chief and Prothman’s police chief recruitment expert, will be the project lead for Snoqualmie’s search.

At the meeting council members asked Carden about the possibility of finding a candidate from a different part of the country and the culture clash that could result from that. Carden explained that the search tends to prioritize Western candidates for Western clients rather than bring someone in from the South or the East.

That night, the council approved a contract with Financial Consulting Solutions Group to update the utility revenue requirements and rates study before utility rates are adopted for the next three years and also approved the mayor to make a $370,000 offer to purchase a property on Park Avenue S.E. along the Snoqualmie River.

An ordinance to submit a proposition for the ballot in the general election on Nov. 8, was introduced at the meeting as well. The proposed ordinance would authorize the city to lift the levy lid limit to provide funds for two new police officers and one new firefighter.

The council announced they would be seeking Snoqualmie citizens to serve in the pro and con committees, to write the statements included in the voter’s pamphlet this November.

Citizens interested in the committees are required to be registered voters in Snoqualmie. To apply, contact Snoqualmie City Clerk Jodi Warren at info@ci.snoqualmie.wa.us with your name, address, phone number, email and your preference of pro or con committee.
