Wildfire is becoming more common in King County, but the threat can still catch landowners by surprise. In the event that wildfire threatens, extra precautions and planning are necessary to protect horses and other livestock from harm.
Nationally known equestrian speaker Alayne Blickle of Horses for Clean Water will give a presentation, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Carnation Library, on wildfire preparedness for equestrian properties. This workshop will focus on tangible steps that landowners can take to identify wildfire risks on their property and the actions that will minimize those risks.
Workshop participants will learn to build an emergency plan for themselves and their animals that takes into account the special needs of horses for safe evacuation and refuge.
This event is free to attend, and all are welcome. To register, visit kingcd.eventbrite.com, call (425) 282-1949 or send email to signup@kingcd.org.
This workshop is sponsored by the King Conservation District and King County. The King Conservation District is non-regulatory non-enforcement organization that provides education and technical assistance to landowners on the wise use of natural resources.
