Letter: In recognition of public safety communications

Published 10:30 am Monday, April 18, 2016

Every year, the second full week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators. The National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week recognizes the invaluable work of telecommunicators, who provide that vital link to public safety services we rely upon daily.

Governor Jay Inslee issued a proclamation making April 10 to 16, 2016, Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in the state. We are very proud of our Issaquah Police Department dispatchers for all of the great work they do. They are the lifeline to our police officers and dispatchers.

I started my career in law enforcement in 1983, as a 21-year-old dispatcher for the State Patrol. I know firsthand how difficult this job can be and what a critical support function it is to our officers and fire fighters out in the field.

Please join me in recognizing and honoring our Telecommunicator First Responders, who answer 9-1-1 calls and dispatch our police officers and fire fighters.
