Letter | Mount Si Road doesn’t need more cars
Published 8:30 am Thursday, March 3, 2016
As a resident that lives right off Mount Si Road, I have to weigh in my disapproval of the DNR’s proposed new trailhead and 70-car parking lot for Mt. Teneriffe.
Mount Si Road gets 100,000 annual car trips from people wishing to hike up Mount Si. This does not include car trips for residents, school buses, FedEx, UPS, etc.
When parking is full at Mount Si trailhead (and even when the lot is not full), hikers use our neighborhood as an overflow parking lot as well as parking on the sides of Mount Si Road.
This is an extremely dangerous thing to do as there is no sidewalk for people to walk on. If you do not want to see even more cars parking along Mount Si Road, please contact the Dept. of Natural Resources and voice your concern.
Mount Si Road needs to be repaved and repaired before we spend one more dime of our tax dollars for a new parking lot on a parking lot.
And do we really want to add more parking lots to this scenic area anyway? I don’t think so.
