Four Mount Si DECA students to compete at state level

Four students from Mount Si High School placed in the top 10 for their categories in the Jan. 8 Area 4 DECA Career Development Conference to advance to the state Career Development Conference March 3 to 5 in Bellevue.
Megan Ewing placed first in the Advertising Campaign category. Noah Vaughn placed fifth in Quick Service Restaurant Management. Kira Denny placed eighth in Hotel and Lodging and Mike Olson placed 10th in Business Service Management.
Mount Si students Chris Archer and Caden Kimball also earned medals for their scores on exams or role playing. Archer won for Automobile Services Management, Kimball for Professional Selling Event
Approximately 1,800 students from high schools throughout Seattle, Renton, Bellevue, Issaquah and the Snoqualmie Valley participated in the 2016 regional event. At the state conference, students who finish in the top seven will be invited to the International DECA Career Conference, April 22 to 27, in Nashville, Tenn.
Last year, Vaughn qualified as a sophomore for the international conference in the Quick Service Restaurant category. As a result, he earned certification from the National Hotel Association for Retail Customer Service.
DECA, which stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
