Contra dancing the night away at North Bend's Sallal Grange | Photos

Every dancer got a chance to greet and sway with every other dancer, smiling as they moved across the ballroom at North Bend’s Sallal Grange.

Conta Dancing is a lot like square dancing, but easier to learn and ideal for families, several of whom were in attendance at last week’s monthly get-together. Anyone, of any age, can take part.

Steps are taught before the dance, and the caller calls out the steps as the tune progresses. Sometimes the dancers get the steps right, sometimes they get them wrong, but they always are laughing and squealing.

Grandsons can delight that special grandmother by taking her dancing! Or delight that special girl by taking her dancing. Or both at the same time.

Sallal Grange is located at 12912 432nd Ave. S.E., North Bend.

Mary Brown, center, dances with Tim Noonan, as couple John and Christa Lazenby of Fall City circle in rear, Friday evening, Jan. 17, during Sallal Grange’s monthly Contra Dance. Tim Noonan, at right, taught waltz lessons prior to the evening’s dance.

About a dozen pairs of dancers, including several families, danced to the tunes of Tokul Road at the old-fashioned dance.
