Bomb threats made at North Bend City Hall

Last Thursday and Friday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, North Bend’s City Hall received two bomb threats. The threats, addressed to the North Bend Police, were delivered by mail to City Hall, which used to house the police department.

“Basically, we got a letter saying there was possibly a bomb,” said North Bend Police Chief Sgt. Mark Toner. “The letter was addressed to us, the police, so we searched the substation and the City Hall.”

Toner called for bomb-sniffing dogs from the King County Sheriff’s Office, to aid in the search. No threat was found, but the case is under investigation.

“This bomb threat was not unusual,” he said, adding that the sheriff’s department investigates bomb threats frequently. “Its something we are aware of.”

He could offer little information on the letters or the sender, since the case is under investigation. However, both envelopes had markings distinct enough that the city employee who got the mail on Friday recognized it as from the same sender, and immediately called the police.
