Austin Jenckes wore make-up for the first time ever last night, for his successful audition on “The Voice.” The Valley singer-songwriter posted on his Facebook page a photo of himself in the make-up chair before the show. A few hours later, he had even bigger news.
“Well, secret’s finally out!!! I’m on Blake Shelton’s team and am super stoked for it!” he wrote.
Jenckes, who lived in North Bend and Duvall before moving to Nashville to pursue a professional music career, sang “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was one of the first songs his father had taught him to play, and one his mother often sang to him, he told the judges.
Both country music star Blake Shelton and rapper-producer CeeLo Green picked Jenckes for their teams, giving him the choice of either coach. He chose Shelton, who has won the competition three of its four previous seasons.
‘The Voice’ airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC, with several more rounds of “blind auditions” before the competition between the selected singers on teams will begin.
