Snoqualmie school board to start new year with new meeting start time

This fall, meetings of the Snoqualmie Valley School Board will begin at 6:30 p.m. rather than 7:30 p.m. Board members formalized the time change July 12. The first meeting to begin at the earlier time will be the Thursday, Sept. 13 meeting, at the district office, 8001 Silva Ave. S.E., Snoqualmie.

The change was proposed at the June 14 board meeting, in hopes of preventing more of the extremely late-night sessions the board has held in recent months.

“I think there’s quite a lot of support among board members that we move that time earlier in the evening,” board president Dan Popp said at that meeting.

Board members agreed on an earlier start time, but questioned how that would affect the start time for work-study sessions, typically held before board meetings. Superintendent Joel Aune suggested that the board could use the same start time for all meetings, since work-study sessions are also open to the public.
