Letters | School district voters need to look past the mudslinging

I read Ann Stedman’s letter and could not believe someone would actually think it was okay to print something like that. I am constantly reminded by my kids and by the school district about teaching respect of others. I guess that only relates to the way people look though, and not about someone having a difference of opinion on the bond issue or the redistricting issue.
I have to admit that letters like that make me believe that the district and the school board is actually afraid to have anyone from Snoqualmie on the board. The fact that Ms. Simpson has a difference of opinion on some issues aside, it appears that Ms. Stedman thinks it is okay to have a board comprised of nothing but North Bend and Fall City residents. As a Snoqualmie resident, I feel otherwise.
As for the bond issue, the fact Ms. Simpson pointed out the enrollment numbers at Mount Si did not justify the need to spend $56 million on a new school during one of our most severe economic times does not seem unreasonable to me. The new numbers released by the district this week seem to show that enrollment is down even more at Mount Si. I guess the fact that the second bond was defeated because 55 to 60 percent of residents in North Bend and Fall City voted no does not matter either. Funny, our entire school board resides in these areas, yet their own neighbors voted no. Maybe Ms. Stedman needs to knock on some doors.
Differences of opinion are good. They should be taken into account and should be tolerated. I think the people in the Valley are informed voters and can see through the smoke and mud-slinging. I, for one, would rather rise above it and set a better example for my kids.
