Major road overhaul coming to Snoqualmie Ridge

The city of Snoqualmie is starting the first major overhaul of Snoqualmie Ridge streets this summer.

The two-inch grind and overlay project will repair Douglas, Fairway and Cascade Avenue, Ridge Street and Eagle Lake Drive.

With cracks showing in parts of the 12- to 15-year-old streets, the work is being performed now to stave off more serious repairs and higher costs.

“We’re trying to be ahead of the curve,” said Mike Roy, operations manager for the city’s Public Works division.

Work begins after July 4 and will wrap by August 30. Traffic control measures are planned. Puget Sound Energy will also be upgrading systems to improve electrical reliability on Douglas Avenue

When finished, residents will drive on brand-new road surfaces.

Residents will encounter closed streets at times during construction, and will be asked to park in garages, alleys, or otherwise off of impacted roads.

Closing streets impacts access, but by paving them in one go, “you’ll have a better product when you’re done,” Public Works Director Dan Marcinko said.

The city portion of the project is about $400,000. Developer Quadrant is funding a $350,000 portion of the repairs to Douglas Avenue.
