Jack McClymont

Long time Fall City resident Jack McClymont died March 3, 2011 after a brief illness. Born in Portland, Oregon October 17, 1913, Jack graduated from Kapowsin High School in Washington in 1931 at the height of the great depression. As the oldest son, he left home soon after graduation with a dime in his pocket and the shirt on his back because there was no food at home. With no jobs available he rode freight trains around the USA with hobos, barely making a living. In 1936 he landed a job with Puget Power and bought his first new car, a 1935 Ford coupe. In 1937 he married Marie Foster, the mother of his three children. In 1941 he transferred to Puget’s Snoqualmie Falls Power Plant and lived in a company house. In 1944 he purchased a 5 acre farm in Fall City and began raising 1000 turkeys per year. In 1949 he purchased his current residence, a 40 acre farm from Orin Baxter. In 1954 he retired from Puget Power and purchased Stowe Hardware which he operated until his retirement in 1976. In 1957 he was a founding member of the Fall City Kiwanis club and was elected their first president. He and his second wife, Edith traveled extensively until her death in 2005. Jack is survived by his children, son Doug and wife Liz of Surprise, Arizona; daughter Carol Tighe and husband Tom of Maple Valley, WA; sister Jean Corby of Sun Lakes, Arizona; grandchildren Kevin Tighe, Sue (McClymont) Martinez, Bob McClymont, Mike McClymont and Cheryl (McClymont) Schneider; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. At his request, a family only graveside memorial will be held. Donations in his honor may be made to the Fall City Food Pantry and the Fall City Historical Society.
