Opportunities still there to help

Published 1:00 am Friday, October 3, 2008

The dust is still settling at Snoqualmie Ridge where Habitat for Humanity of East King County recently held its whirlwind “blitz build” (20 homes in 12 days). The homes are nearing completion with the continuing help of homeowners and volunteers.

As a volunteer before and during the blitz, I want to thank all the people who helped. Individuals, church congregations, businesses (both small and large) and the city of Snoqualmie helped in so many ways. Many people pushed their resources to the limit in meeting the challenges presented by such an undertaking.

Now that the blitz is over, the media coverage will taper off and many will forget about Habitat’s work on the Eastside. However, there is so much work yet to be done, at the Ridge as well as other Habitat sites.

Much of the blitz’s media coverage focused on the people: homeowners and volunteers. That is what Habitat is about: people in need helping themselves with the help of others. Habitat is an important part of the support network for families in our area. There are many ways to help. Check out the Web site at habitatekc.org, or call the office at (425) 869-6007.

Get out and swing a hammer and see what it’s all about.
