A breath of fresh air for the Fifth District

It’s time to send a new representative to the Washington State Legislature from the 5th District. As Jeff Griffin, candidate for the 5th District representative position says, our Legislature is grid locked on a number of key issues that are essential to Washington State’s future success. If elected, we believe he will make real progress in Olympia on behalf of his Snoqualmie Valley constituents.

Since announcing his candidacy in February, Jeff and his volunteers have doorbelled over 11,000 voters throughout the 5th District. He has listened to voters’ ideas and is ready to act on what he’s heard. Our concerns range from health care affordability (“Let’s form insurance pools so small businesses can pool together to get lower rates”), the high cost of prescription drugs (“Let’s become one of the states that approves the purchase of lower priced medication from Canada.”), improving our state’s education system (“Let’s make sure more Washington students can attend college in their own state. And let’s reduce class sizes in our secondary schools.”) and especially of concern to our local students, we need to adjust the state funding formula to make sure the Snoqualmie School District receives its fair share of our state’s education dollars.

Jeff would tackle the inefficiencies in our state-run programs (“We need audits of state agencies right now.”), improve transportation (“Necessary road projects provide high-skilled jobs.”), including incentives to increase the use of fuel efficient cars (“Why not allow hybrid cars the use of the car-pool lanes?”), encourage stewardship of our natural resources (“Let’s promote development of alternative energy production such as wind farms.”) and revise the oppressive small business and occupation tax structure that taxes businesses right out of the state. And these are just a few of the common sense ideas he will champion in Olympia next year.

Raised in a family of educators, Jeff Griffin is a third-generation Washingtonian who has been an area resident for over 20 years. He built his first house in the 5th District in 1981, the same year he landed his first job as a firefighter. When he was fire commissioner of District 10, Jeff managed a mutli-million dollar budget and led efforts to consolidate fire departments into the Eastside Fire and Rescue to cut down on response times. A professional firefighter since 1985, Jeff is a captain of the Port of Seattle Fire Department and has extensive training and background in anti-terrorism, weapons of mass destruction and security at one of the West Coast’s busiest airports. He, his wife and his two young children currently live in Sammamish.

Please join us in supporting Jeff Griffin for the Washington State House of Representatives. This is an opportunity for Snoqualmie Valley voters to elect a legislator who will truly represent us and not special interests. He can be assured of our votes.
