Wildcats move into third place

SNOQUALMIE – Mount Si notched another win in last Tuesday’s baseball game against Liberty, scoring 13 runs on six hits. The team has steadily improved this season, winning its last three games against Bellevue, Liberty and Cedarcrest.

The ‘Cats’ league record now stands at 10-5, just behind Skyline and Issaquah who are in first and second place in KingCo competition.

Six of Mount Si’s runs came in the first inning. To start things off, Mike Dahm was hit by the pitch and went to first. Aaron Svarthumle then hit a two-run home run to right-center field.

David LaBelle advanced to first after being hit with the pitch, and Scott Johnson, who came in to run for LaBelle, moved to second on a passed ball by Liberty’s catcher. Brent Clarke singled to center field, scoring Johnson from second. Matt Poth singled, and Sean Sattler walked to load the bases.

Clarke scored on a wild pitch, advancing both Poth and Sattler. Tyler Osborn singled to center, knocking in the fifth and sixth runs.

The Wildcats held Liberty scoreless in the top of the second. At the bottom of the frame, they continued their offensive output with a single by LaBelle and a stolen base by Johnson, who had come in to run for him. Later, Johnson and Svarthumle scored two runs.

Liberty scored two runs in the top of the third on a double to right field and a subsequent two-run home run.

Mount Si led 8-2 going into the bottom of the third inning and scored five more runs on the Patriots. Osborn led off with a walk. Josh Serrick made it safely to first on an throwing error, and Marc Dahm hit an infield ground ball and beat the throw to first base. Serrick, however, was forced out at second, while Osborn went to third.

Dahm stole second base, and Osborn was able to cross home plate. Mike Dahm singled to left-center field, bringing in brother Marc from second. Svarthumle was up next and walked, then both he and Mike Dahm advanced on a wild pitch.

Clarke was hit by the pitch and went to first, scoring Mike Dahm. Poth singled, and Svarthumle scored on a wild pitch while Sattler was at bat. In short time, Clarke was at third base and managed to score Mount Si’s 13th run on a wild pitch from the catcher to Liberty pitcher, who was covering home plate.

No runs were scored by Liberty in the fourth inning, as Bryce Kaestner retired the first three batters. Mount Si was also scoreless in the fourth. The Patriots had one last chance in the fifth, but the game ended with Mount Si winning 13-2.

Kaestner pitched all five innings, allowing two runs off three hits and earning his fourth win of the year. Svarthumle had one home run, two RBIs and scored three runs.

The team will play in the 3A KingCo League championship which begins on May 8 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
