ISSAQUAH – Despite a double-double from Mount Si post Jeremy Johnston, the Wildcats boys’ basketball team fell to the Issaquah Eagles, 86-83, in triple overtime last Friday night in Kingco 3A action at Issaquah High School.
Johnston’s 23 points and 15 rebounds led the scoring charge for Mount Si, but the night belonged to Eagles’ guard Garrison Carr who scored a career-high 39 points, including five three-pointers, to lead his team. Matt Wickswat added a double-double of his own (11 points, 15 rebounds) to pace the Eagles.
The Wildcats’ Luke Landdeck scored 21, hitting four three-pointers, and Erik Tierney added 15 to pace the Wildcats.
Johnston, Tierney and Landdeck have been hot of late and played huge roles in Mount Si’s 2-2 effort at their holiday tournament late last month. Tierney and Landdeck are tied for the team scoring lead at the halfway point of the season, each averaging 13.2 points per game, while Johnston trails in second with 12.1 points per game.
Mount Si, after trailing by one at the end of one quarter, rallied to take a 29-25 lead at halftime. Issaquah outscored the Wildcats 17-11 in the third, before Mount Si came from behind in the final quarter of regulation to force overtime tied at 59-59. Each of the teams scored 13 points through the first two overtimes, before the Eagles outscored the Wildcats 14-11 in the third overtime to grab the victory.
Mount Si fell to 1-3 in conference, 4-6 overall, with a game earlier this week against Skyline, and a game Friday at Bellevue, as they look to make their way back into contention in the Valley Division.
A makeup date of Jan. 24 has been set for the Wildcats’ postponed Jan. 3 game against Seattle Prep. No date, however, has been set for the postponed game, one the first Valley Cup game of the season, against Cedarcrest which was scheduled for last Tuesday. Both games were canceled due to the severe winter storm which affected the Puget Sound area.
