Legends of the cup have graced Valley football since 1945
Over the 50-plus years that Mount Si and Tolt, (now Cedarcrest) have squared off for the Snoqualmie Valley Championship, some great gridiron players have rallied their prospective teams to victory:
– Fullback Bill Venn ran for an extra point and threw his “special” pass to a streaking Clarence Alm in the end zone as the Scarlet and Gray won the first match-up of the two football teams. Mount Si 13, Tolt 0.
– Backfielder Dick Mayrand lobbed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Bill Poch and a 5-yard TD strike to reserve end John Lund. Mount Si 21, Tolt 0.
– Pete Lenes scored on a 65-yard touchdown pass and later rushed four yards for his second score of the game. Mount Si 44, Tolt 0.
– Fullback Paul Holm, a second-stringer filling in for John Bluher (who broke his leg in a game against Bellevue), ran for two touchdowns. Mount Si 32, Tolt 6.
– Don Trombley scored three touchdowns and ran for a conversion to lead the Wildcats’ rout of their Valley rivals. Mount Si 49, Tolt 0.
– Waldo Hawk had a 23-yard touchdown run and a 25-yard dash into the end zone for Mount Si. Mount Si 34, Tolt 6.
– Steve Cuthbert returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown against the Demons. Mount Si 27, Tolt 8.
– Running back Mike Neal rushed for a touchdown and the two-point conversion to give the Scarlet and Gray a 6-0 lead. Mount Si 20, Tolt 0.
– Running back Bob Forslin had two touchdowns and broke an 18-all tie with a successful two-point conversion run. Mount Si 20, Tolt 18.
– Bob Wilson fell on a fumble to tie the game at 6-6 against Tolt. He nailed the extra-point kick to put Mount Si ahead for good. Wilson finished with two touchdowns in the contest. Mount Si 38, Tolt 19.
– Quarterback Bob Treado went 6-for-13 passing and logged 110 yards of air offense and two touchdowns. The game’s final score came when Greg Hart (current athletic director at Mount Si) hauled in a pass from his younger brother, Scott, a freshman quarterback, for the ‘Cats. Mount Si 52, Tolt 8.
– Cedarcrest quarterback Brent Robertson went 10-for-21 passing and racked up 149 yards in the air – and three touchdowns – as the Lower Valley high school finally conquered their upriver colleagues. Cedarcrest 31, Mount Si 19
– Mount Si quarterback Chris Riley threw for two touchdowns and notched one himself on the keeper as the Wildcats reclaimed the Championship trophy 28-0. The Wildcats would continue their winning streak, eventually taking the Kingco Championship and heading to the playoffs.
– Cedarcrest senior Eric Dick ran for 120 yards on 20 carries to lead the offense on a night of pounding rain. The Red Wolves 16-7 upset win over the Wildcats kept both teams at a record of two wins and seven losses.
– Two words summarize the game played on the Tolt field – smash mouth. Both teams put on an impressive defensive performance. But in the end, a punt return by Tommy Harding would be all the Red Wolves would need to knock off Mount Si. Mount Si 0, Cedarcrest 7.
– Brett Bergstrom scored a touchdown and pulled in several key passes as the Wildcats brought the trophy back to Mount Si with a 21-14 win. A drive late in the game was thwarted by the Wildcats John Karlen to ice the win.
– The Red Wolves’ Manin DuBois, Cody Petterson and Tommy Harding put together an impressive offensive effort along with touchdowns by Jake Ballingham and Russell McGinnis. Cedarcrest inaugurated their new football stadium with a 19-14 win over their Upper Valley rivals.
