Caribbean site of Korsmo shut out
On July 25, the Washington Chiefs, a select team of 17 to 19-year-old high-school and junior-college baseball players from Washington and Oregon that included Mount Si senior Chase Korsmo, traveled to the Dominican Republic to play in the Santo Domingo Diamond Baseball Classic. The Chiefs were the only team from the United States in their age group and played teams from the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
When the dust cleared after the final game, it was the Chiefs who came away as tournament champions with a 5 win, 1 loss record. The team ended up with a batting average of .416 and Korsmo, playing as pitcher, recorded a 7-0 two-hit shut out win in a game against a Dominican Republic team during the tournament. He is pictured in the inset.
Members of the Chiefs also brought along bags of baseball equipment to donate to local youth baseball teams.
