JV team notches first win
The Mount Si junior varsity girls’ basketball team launched its season with a 52-28 win over Eastside Catholic. Solid perimeter shooting from Stephanie Reilly and Amy Keogh helped the ‘Cats dominate.
Christie Leatoita had an excellent game, dropping in 14 points. Lindsay Logic did a nice job distributing the ball and breaking the press.
Red Wolves defeat Vashon
The Cedarcrest Red Wolves varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Vashon Island last week in non-league action 58-46.
Chris Kracht scored 20 points, grabbed 11 boards and blocked three shots in the Red Wolves’ victory.
Cedarcrest settled down in the third quarter, and, thanks to more patience on offense and more pressure on defense, outscored Vashon 20-13 to build the winning margin.
Scoring for Cedarcrest were Zach Taylor with two, Kyle Eldred with seven, Russell McGinnis with six, Brett deVries with 18, Kracht with 20 and Bryan Stephenson with five. The win puts the Red Wolves’ record at 1-0.
CHS girls fall to Vashon
The Cedarcrest Red Wolves girls’ basketball team fell to Vashon Island last week 49-35.
Rachel Salz scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Red Wolves (0-1) dropped the season opener to the Pirates.
Cedarcrest started three freshman in the game. Scoring for the Red Wolves were Betsy Westermann with two, Jenine Drew with two, Nikki Neilson with seven, Stephanie Ayers with 10 and Jenny Hamilton wuth two.
Wildcats lose game to Kangaroos
The Mount Si boys’ basketball team was defeated by Lake Washington last week 67-48. Sophomore Jeremy Johnston led the scoring effort with 20, followed by Logan Ratcliffe with 10, Eric Tierney with eight, Chris Lyle with seven, Brett Bergstrom with two and Casey Hough with one.

‘Cats take third, Cedarcrest second
The Mount Si wrestling team started its season with a third-place finish in the David Szczepanik Memorial Takedown Tournament held at Mount Si. First place went to Hazen with 342 points, second to Cedarcrest with 280 points, third to the ‘Cats with 272 points, fourth to Kennedy with 210 points, fifth to Washington with 124 points and sixth to Blanchet with 116 points.
Local wrestlers finishing first in their weight classes were Jason Rothgeb for Mount Si at 103 pounds; Alex Haas for Mount Si at 112 pounds; Jordan Prior for Mount Si at 119 pounds; Aaron Pedeferri for Cedarcrest at 125 pounds; Robby Westermann for Cedarcrest at 189 pounds; and Dylan Seubert for Mount Si at 215 pounds.
Other local top-three finish ers were Conner Baker, third, for Cedarcrest at 103 pounds; Darren DeBoer, second, for Cedarcrest at 130 pounds; Jon Emerson, third, for Mount Si at 130 pounds; Tate Brammer, third, for Cedarcrest at 135 pounds; Chris Ippolito, second, for Mount Si at 140 pounds; Cody Hudson, second, for Cedarcrest at 145 pounds, Grant Nelson, third, for Mount Si at 145 pounds; Kyle Jacobsen, second, for Mount Si at 152 pounds; Andrew Claussen, third, for Cedarcrest at 152 pounds; Alan Shults, third, for Cedarcrest at 160 pounds; Adam Speir, second, for Cedarcrest at 171 pounds.
Both teams begin their regular seasons this week.
