JV girls defeat Renton
The Mount Si junior varsity girls’ basketball team improved their
record to six wins and no losses with a 42-40 victory over Renton. The
Lady `Cats overcame a tough Renton zone defense, as well as surviving a
difficult shooting night. Kristen Berndt led the team with 15 points and
Karin Brevicks had nine.
JV drops game to Totems
The Mount Si boys’ junior varsity basketball team dropped a game
to Sammamish last week 59-56. Leading the effort for the `Cats was
Jeremy Johnston with 18 points, followed by John Karlen and Bryan
Gabriel, who each had eight. Top rebounders were Karlen and Chris Lyle, each
with nine, and Johnston with seven. Leading the assist effort was
Jacob Waggoner with five, followed by Gabriel and Lyle with four apiece.
JV girls pound Patriots
The Mount Si JV girls were at it again last week, trouncing the
Liberty Patriots 50-30. The `Cats jumped on the Patriots early with a 16-8 first
quarter lead and never looked back. Scoring was led by Karin Brevick’s
16 points and Kristen Berndt’s 11. Team captains Christina Vidauri and
Lauren Dunford chipped in by nailing a few outside shots against a tightly
packed Liberty zone.
“C” team defeats Liberty
The Mount Si “C” basketball team defeated Liberty last week
53-35. Leading the effort was Lindsay Logic with 20 points, followed by
Sabrina Porterfield with nine. Martina Lynch had eight points, and Erin Hart
and Zoe Nelson each added six.
JV boys defeat Liberty
The Mount Si JV boys’ basketball team got back on the winning
track last week by pounding Liberty 84-47. The `Cats had five players score in
the double figures. Joel Hendricks led all scorers with 16 points, followed
by John Karlen with 14, Jacob Waggoner with 12 and Jeremy Johnston with
12. Casey Hough also added 11, including a spectacular dunk.
Top rebounders were Johnston with 16, Karlen with 15 and Hendricks with
12. Hough had five assists with Waggoner and Jamie Davis each adding
four. Hendricks and Karlen also added three steals each.
Varsity puts squeeze on Renton
The Mount Si varsity girls’ basketball team handed the Renton
Indians a loss last week in non-league competition 63-42. Once again,
Moriah Hover led the effort with 26 points, followed by Nicci Landdeck with
12. Angela Jones added seven points to the score, Landa Pastrana
three, Kristen Travis six and Lizzie Finnegan nine.
Cedarcrest notches second team win
The Cedarcrest varsity wrestling squad shocked a dazed
Newport Knight crowd by defeating the Bellevue team 36_33. Aaron
Pedeferri started things off in the 112-pound class, pinning Newport’s Yeager in
the first round. Darren deBoer followed it up by winning an 8-4 decision
over Newport’s Luttman in the 119-pound class. Alan Shults then
pinned Newport’s Barton in the second round in the 135-pound class, followed
by Tony Stedman’s pin of Sole in the second round in the 145-pound class.
In the 160-pound class, Amador pinned the Knight’s Gant in the first
round followed by Robby Westerman’s decision over Newport’s Kilmer in
the 171-pound class, 11-8. Finally, Cole Birk rounded out the wins by
pinning Smith in the first round of the 215-pound class.
Cedarcrest downs Skyline
Melanie Klevberg led the Cedarcrest Red Wolves girls’
varsity basketball team to a win over Skyline last week 44-41. Klevberg scored
18 points while teammate Sarah Gustat added 12. Amber Sutter had eight
for the night, Rachel Salz three, Libbye Haddon two and Angeuli Brady one.
Boys fall to Skyline
The Cedarcrest boys’ basketball team dropped a game to Skyline
last week 68-45. Nick Blanchard led the scoring for the Red Wolves with
eight points, followed by Nick Rich who had seven. Zach Taylor, Brett
deVries, James Conrick and Chris Kracht each had six. Jeffrey Coy had four and
D.J. Harding had two.
`Cats defeat Liberty
Whenever Moriah Hover gets in the groove, its tough for any team
to beat Mount Si, and Liberty found that out the hard way, losing to the
Mount Si varsity girls’ basketball team 57-54.
With the Wildcats holding a 10-point lead early in the fourth
quarter, the Patriots battled back. A layin by Chelsea Beck pulled the
Patriots within three, but a three-pointer by Hover put the `Cats ahead again
by six. Liberty’s Jaime Corin responded by scoring five points to bring the
Patriots to within one. They took a one-point lead on two free throws by
Jessica Jacobs with 22 seconds left on the clock. Mount Si sophomore
Angela Jones sealed the win, hitting two free throws with only seconds left.
Other major contributors to the win were Nicci Landdeck, who added 18
points, Lyndsey Hyatt with four, Jones with six, Kristen Travis with two and
Cari Smith with one. Landdeck also recorded seven rebounds and Hover
had 15.
Bellevue clobbers `Cats
The Bellevue Wolverines, who rank high in the state standings,
defeated the Wildcats girls’ varsity basketball team 54-34 last week.
Moriah Hover led the team in points with 13, followed by
Nicci Landdeck with 10. Cari Smith and Angela Jones each added five,
while Kristen Travis added one. It was the first loss for the `Cats who are
7-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Totems down Cedarcrest
The Sammamish Totems defeated the Red Wolves girls’ varsity
basketball team 69-43 last week. Sarah Gustat led the scoring for the
Red Wolves with 10, Libbye Haddon and Melanie Klevberg each had six,
Nikki Nelson, Candice Shepard and Amber Sutter had five each. Rachel Salz
had four and Angeuli Brady had two.
Boys pound Bellevue
Isaiah Cormier and Mike Dahm led the Wildcat’s varsity
basketball team on a rampage over Bellevue last week 91- 68. Cormier and Mike
Dahm each had 23 points followed by Sean Fallows with 22, Marc Dahm with
13, Vince Longbucco with five and Logan Ratcliffe with five.
Red Wolves lose to Sammamish
The Cedarcrest Red Wolves lost to Sammamish last week 68-42.
James Conrick and Chris Kracht led the team with 11 points each. Jeffery Coy
had five and Nick Blanchard, Zach Taylor and Curtis Coe had three each.
Nick Rich and D.J. Harding contributed two and Brian Hunter had one. The
Red Wolves have a 0-3 league record at this point.
