Baseball team bests Issaquah
The Mount Si Baseball team beat Interlake 6-3 April 27 with the help of some strong hitting. Marc Dahm tripled in the third and eventually scored a run. The Wildcats brought in five runs in the sixth with the help of singles by Mike Dahm, Jeremy Bess and Josh Serrick, and a double by Dan Flood. Clarke pitched all seven innings and struck out seven batters. Aaron Svarthumle also had two hits, one of which was a double. This win brought the team to third place with a record of 10-6 in the 3A KingCo League.
Mount Si tops Skyline
Mount Si squeaked out a win against Skyline last Wednesday in varsity baseball, beating the Spartans 7-6. Skyline led 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth after the lead-off batter doubled. The next batter tripled, and the third batter singled, bringing in two runs. In the seventh, Matt Poth had a key pinch hit, Marc Dahm laid down a good sacrifice bunt, and Clarke hit a big hit to drive in a run and tie up the game.
The Wildcats came through in the eighth when Dan Flood hit a double to center field, and Josh Serrick doubled down the left field line, scoring Johnson who came in to run for Flood. Tyler Osborn then doubled down the left-field line bringing in Serrick, and Sattler singled to left, scoring Osborn. The game ended when Aaron Svarthumle caught a line drive to first base and then tagged the runner at first who was off the base for the double play. Nick Harpel pitched the first five innings, and struck out three batters. Clarke came in in relief and pitched the rest of the game. David LaBelle threw two runners out trying to steal second base.
Softball loses to Issaquah
The varsity fastpitch team lost to Skyline last Tuesday 7-4. Issaquah scored four runs in the first inning and kept a lead on the Wildcats throughout the game despite making seven errors. Dana Luizzo hit a double and a triple, and Rachel McNaul had a double. McNaul and Tabitha Albertson were 2-for-3 at bat.
Soccer team drops game
The Mount Si Varsity soccer team lost to Interlake last week by a score of 2-0. Interlake’s leading scorers Suad Krkic and Luke Thevenet, brought in the goals in the 18th and 66th minutes of the game to shut out the Wildcats. Krkic’s goal came when he dribbled down the left side of the field and broke past three Mount Si defenders. Eddie Becker kept goal for Mount Si.
Wildcats beat Indians
The C-team soccer Cats beat Issaquah by a score of 3-1, April 31. Tyler Austin began the scoring for the ‘Cats on a breakaway with a goal. As the second half began, Austin picked up the ball as it was being worked up the field by the defense at midfield and scored goal No. 2. Issaquah was then able to get a hold of the ball and squeak out a goal, but Nick McCarty and Nick Swanson teamed up to end the scoring, as Swanson worked the ball through the midfield and McCarty shot it in at the post.
Baseball team finishes strong
The Wildcat Baseball team racked up another win April 25 against Bellevue in their last home game of the season beating the Wolverines by a score of 6-5. Mike Dahm hit a double in the sixth inning that brought in a run. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Aaron Svarthumle hit a 370-foot single that brought in Sean Sattler for the winning run. Nick Harpel pitched the last three innings and only gave up one hit.
Golf team ends season
The Mount Si Wildcat golfers finished the regular season with a loss May 1 to Liberty by a score of 270-285. The ‘Cats finish the season with a 2-7 record. Jess Sanford broke the 50 barrier by shooting a 49.
Mount Si beats Eastlake
The mighty Wildcat soccer C-team defeated the Eastlake Wolves May 2 shutting them out 2-0. The first goal came when Brett Fallows made a throw in to Tyler Austin who picked up the ball and scored. Shortly after the second half started, Kyle Lashbrook and Nick Swanson teamed up in the goal box as Lashbrook assisted Swanson with goal number two. Keeper Jonathon Neilson is credited with the shut out as he worked with the mighty defense line of Kyle Pillo, Steven Johnson, John Butler and Alex Hennig.
Baseball brings in another win
The Mount Si baseball team brought in their tenth win of the season May 2 against Skyline. The Wildcats were able to score seven runs in eight innings to secure the 7-6 win over the Spartans. Nick Harpel pitched five innings striking out three batters, and Brent Clarke pitched three innings. Mike Dahm, Dan Flood, Scott Johnson, Josh Serrick and Tyler Osborn all recorded doubles, and Matt Poth, Sean Sattler, Aaron Svarthumle, Jeremy Bess and David LaBelle each had hits. Serrick, Flood and Osborne also had RBIs.
Cedarcrest makes playoffs
The Cedarcrest varsity baseball team clinched a 6-3 win over Interlake Friday to secure the sixth and final playoff spot. Sean McDonald had seven hits during seven innings, walked five batters and didn’t record any strikeouts, but held Interlake to only three runs. Matt Geiger was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Bobby Znak and Nick Rich were also 2-for-3 with one RBI each.
Red Wolves battle at Eason
A dozen or so members of the Cedarcrest track and field team traveled to the Eason Invitational meet April 22. James Conrick placed third in the one-mile race with a time of 4:24, and Aaron O’Neal garnered sixth place in the javelin with a throw of 179 feet, 9 inches. Chris Lee ran the two-mile race in 10:05. Pat Conrick cleared six feet in the high jump, but did not place.
In girls’ competition, there were no placings, but there were several exceptional performances. Jamie Brooks ran the 100-meter in 13.1 seconds. Erin Kendig ran the 200-meter in 27 seconds, and the 400-meter in 1:01.8. The 4×400 relay team of Ashley Grant, Kelly Ramirez, Brooks and Kendig ran the race in 4:18. Abby Kwiat finished the 110-meter high hurdles in 17 seconds.
JV team beats Cedarcrest
The junior-varsity Wildcat soccer team pulled in a win against cross-town rival Cedarcrest Thursday night beating them 4-2. Dan Talevich began the scoring for the Wildcats with an assist from Patrick Davis. Mike North was able to score goal number two as Davis provided another assist. Cedarcrest answered this with two goals, but the Wildcats defense line was able to stop them. Ryan Lenihan scored goal number three with an assist from North to put the Cats ahead 3-2. North picked up the fourth and final goal, and his second of the night, after he accepted the assist from Nick Johnson and secured the win for the Cats.
Wildcats lose in baseball
The Cats got off to a good start Thursday in varsity baseball, but came up short in the end losing 7-1 to Issaquah. The Wildcats hit two singles, a sacrifice bunt and a fly ball to center in the first inning scoring one run.
But Issaquah came back and scored one run in the first on an error, then a double and five runs in the fourth on a home run, and a triple, two doubles, a single and a walk. The Saints didn’t let up in the fifth inning either. They scored one run on two hits and a stolen base to put themselves comfortably ahead of the Wildcats.
Cedarcrest beats Bellevue
Cedarcrest beat Bellevue 8-6 Thursday in softball. The score was tied at 2-2 in the second inning, but the Red Wolves scored four runs in the fifth to pull ahead of the Wolverines and kept the lead until the game ended. Emily Anderson led the Red Wolves going 3-for-3 with three doubles and four RBIs. Dorothy Westerman went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles.
Red Wolves lose to Skyline
The Cedarcrest boys’ track team lost narrowly 83-61 to Skyline last Thursday, but still came out ahead with some individual wins. Brian Hunter won the 100-meter in 11.4 seconds and placed second in the 200-meter in a time of 23.4 seconds.
