Wildcats win league opener with Liberty
In a meet that likely decided the top two KingCo wrestling teams,
the Wildcats, behind efforts of senior Brad Connor, defeated Liberty 36-35.
The overtime match between Connor and the Patriots’ Bryan Anderson
started with Connor five points down. With 20 seconds to go, Connor let
Anderson get up, then took him down to send the match into overtime. Pins
from Brad Davis at 189 pounds and Dylan Seubert at 215 pounds set up the
potential victory for Connor.
Jason Rothgeb won for Mount Si in the 103-pound class by forfeit.
Jordan Prior lost to the Patriots’ Ryan Bamford in the 112-pound class
16-4. In the 119-pound class, Kyle Cunningham defeated Liberty’s
Chris Winslow 9-7 in overtime. The Wildcats’ Nick Martindale was pinned
by Liberty’s Mark Rowe at the 5:34 mark of the third round. Jon Emerson
faced a similar fate for the `Cats, pinned by the Patriots’ Justin Studer in the
