Wildcats win league opener with Liberty

In a meet that likely decided the top two KingCo wrestling teams,

the Wildcats, behind efforts of senior Brad Connor, defeated Liberty 36-35.

The overtime match between Connor and the Patriots’ Bryan Anderson

started with Connor five points down. With 20 seconds to go, Connor let

Anderson get up, then took him down to send the match into overtime. Pins

from Brad Davis at 189 pounds and Dylan Seubert at 215 pounds set up the

potential victory for Connor.

Jason Rothgeb won for Mount Si in the 103-pound class by forfeit.

Jordan Prior lost to the Patriots’ Ryan Bamford in the 112-pound class

16-4. In the 119-pound class, Kyle Cunningham defeated Liberty’s

Chris Winslow 9-7 in overtime. The Wildcats’ Nick Martindale was pinned

by Liberty’s Mark Rowe at the 5:34 mark of the third round. Jon Emerson

faced a similar fate for the `Cats, pinned by the Patriots’ Justin Studer in the

130-pound class. The Patriots’ Kevin Bowen defeated Jeff Stone 10-8

in overtime. Chad Mills pinned Liberty’s B.J. Ward in 16 seconds in the

140-pound class.

In the 145-pound class, Hiram Tame won by disqualification

over Jamar Anderson of Liberty. In the 152-pound class, Taylor Smart won by

disqualification over the Wildcats’ David Crotts. The Patriots’ Kyle Gulit

defeated the Wildcats’ Bobby Taylor in the 160-pound class 10-0.

Jed McDaniels was pinned in the 171-pound class by the Patriots’

Don Robertson at the 1:21 mark of the first round. Davis pinned the

Patriots’ Caleb Martin at the 4:22 mark of the third round and Seubert pinned

Nathan Schaefer of Liberty at the 3:30 mark of the second round.

Mount Si men defeat Totems

The Mount Si Wildcats’ varsity basketball team opened its season

with a bang, dominating league rival Sammamish 91-73. The Totems,

who were picked by many league coaches to lead the Valley Division, never

knew what hit them as the Wildcats ran up leads of 14-2 and 34-8. The

Wildcats had a 52-18 lead at halftime, more than enough points to demoralize their

opponents.

Isaiah Cormier had 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead the team.

Marc Dahm had 20 points, with brother Mike adding 14. Vince Longbucco

had 11 and Logan Ratcliffe had 10.
