Soccer

‘Cats tie MI

The Mount Si Wildcats girls’ soccer team’s postseason hopes appeared to be on life support following a 5-0 loss to Issaquah on Oct. 2. However, after a 1-1 tie with Mercer Island that was only 16 seconds from being the biggest upset of the year in the Kingco 3A conference, Mount Si has appeared to right the ship.

The dangerous scoring combination of freshman Kirsten Mills and senior Kristen Berndt teamed up on the Wildcats’ lone goal in the 53rd minute; Berndt scoring her ninth goal of the year on an assist from Mills. As previously mentioned, the Wildcats came within seconds of an upset before Mercer Island scored the tying goal on a Wildcat defensive breakdown.

Despite the tie, coach Darren Brown was pleased.

“Tonight we played as a team. We went in with the mindset that we were going to take this game and be aggressive for 80 minutes,” said Brown. “I am real proud of their performance tonight. They played with a lot of heart and their touch was superb.”
