Red Wolves pull out second win
The Cedarcrest Red Wolves recorded their second win in a row
last week by defeating the Liberty Patriots on homecoming night, 33-21.
Liberty scored first on a two-play, 90 yard drive but it didn’t take
long for the Red Wolves to answer. On a five play, 78 yard drive,
Cedarcrest scored with Aaron O’Neal carrying the ball 30 yards into the end zone.
The Patriots weren’t about to let the Red Wolves score go unanswered. On
the ensuing kickoff, Patriot Michael Book returned the ball to the Red
Wolves’ two yard line to set up another Patriot score. The point after gave the
Patriots a 14-7 lead to end the first quarter.
The Red Wolves scored again after Nathan McLallan picked off a
Liberty pass and ran it back to the end zone for the touchdown. The
point after failed giving the Patriots a slight margin.
The next Red Wolves score was recorded after the Patriots found
themselves deep in their own territory. A hard hit on the Liberty
quarterback knocked the ball loose on the four
yard line with the Red Wolves’ Colin Guthrie recovering. From
there, Darren Carrido ran it in for the touchdown. The two-point conversion
failed giving the Red Wolves a five point lead at halftime.
The second half started much the same as the first half ended. A
fumble by the Liberty quarterback found Cedarcrest’s Tommy Felts on the
10-yard line with the ball. A pass from Nick Rich to Ben Frey for the
touchdown added to the Red Wolves lead and Carrido capped the effort with
a two-point, point-after to make the score 27-14 late in the third quarter.
Liberty added one more score but the Red Wolves answered with one
of their own. O’Neal busted his way into the end zone one more time to
record the final points, 33-21.
