Olson commits to Central

Maggie Olson, a state volleyball team selection and Mount Si senior, has committed to Central Washington University to play volleyball next year. Olson, an All-Eastside and first-team All-Kingco 3A selection, led the league in assists in 2003 and was among the leaders in digs. She finished the season with 562 assists and had a hitting percentage of .300. She led Mount Si to a runner-up finish at the league tournament.

Plan now for soccer registration

The Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association will be registering for the upcoming season at locations around the Valley during the next few weeks. Registration fees for 2004 are: Micro teams, U7-U8 – born Aug. 1, 1996, through July 31, 1999 – $50; Mod/Association teams, U9-U13 – born Aug. 1, 1991, through July 31, 1996, inclusive – $60; District Recreational U14-U19 – born Aug. 1, 1985, through July 31, 1991, inclusive – $70. Fees for scholarship players are $20. A scholarship form must also be submitted. Late fees are $20 and will be applied to all registrations received after June 1, 2004.

In Carnation, registration will be held at the Carnation Fire Station from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 1; from noon-2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2; and from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, May 7. Contact Tim Panek at (425) 333-6743 or carnation@snvysa.org for information.

In North Bend, registration will be held at Si View Community Center from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 1; and from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 8. Registration will also take place at the North Bend Depot from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, May 6; and from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. Thompson places in steeple chase

Payton Thompson, a 2001 graduate of Mount Si High School, placed third in the 3,000-meter steeple chase recently for Pacific Lutheran University at the Shotwell Invitational track meet. His time was 9:58.06. The Lutes finished third in the men’s team standings with 84 points. The meet was hosted by the University of Puget Sound.


Hole-in-one

Woody Bernard of Bellevue made a hole-in-one at Mount Si Golf Course recently. The shot was made on the fourth hole at a distance of 116 yards using an eight-iron. It was his first hole-in-one.


Senior softball league now forming

Those 55 and over who want to play softball are in luck. Positions are available on a local senior league, co-ed softball team that practices every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 10 a.m. (weather permitting) on the ball field behind the fire station and police department in downtown Issaquah. Competition will start in May. Carpools from the Valley are available.

Track Club holding meets

The Snoqualmie Valley Track Club announces its spring all-comers track meet schedule with meets beginning this weekend. The first meet will be held April 25, at Mount Si High School from 2-4:30 p.m. On May 2, the meet will be held at Chief Kanim Middle School from 2-4:30 p.m. On May 16, the meet will be again held at Mount Si High School from 2-4:30 p.m. and then on May 23, the meet will be back down at Chief Kanim Middle School from 2-4:30 p.m.

Finally, the season wraps up with a meet at Mount Si High School on June 6, from 2-4:30 p.m.

All meets are free to the public with ribbons awarded to all participants. Anyone between the ages 2-17 are encouraged to participate.

Athay takes first

Michelle Athay of North Bend recently took first for her age group at the Level Seven state gymnastics championships held in Kennewick. She scored a 9.5 on the vault, 9.45 on the uneven bars, 9.525 on the beam and 9.5 on the floor for an all around score of 37.975.
