Mount Si records two holes-in-one
And the hits just keep on coming at Mount Si Golf Course. On
Monday, Oct. 18, Sharon Drummey of Kirkland recorded a
hole-in-one. Drummey made her ace on the 132-yard hole number four, using a
seven- iron.
Five days later Dick Mozone of Kirkland also recorded a
hole-in-one, and also on the fourth hole. Mozone used an eight-iron to record his feat.
Boys AAU basketball
to hold tryouts
Tryouts for this year’s Boys AAU basketball teams, which will
compete in the Cascade Travel League, are taking place. There will be one team
each for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
The tryout dates and times are:
• 6th grade: Thursday, Nov 4, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
• 8th grade: Thursday, Nov. 4, 7:30 to 9 p.m.
The tryouts will take place at the Carnation Elementary School
gym. The group does not have a 7th grade coach yet and will announce 7th
grade tryouts at a later date.

LaPonte places again
North Bend resident and Snoqualmie Elementary
fourth-grader Drake DaPonte ran another great
cross country race on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Woodland Park.
LaPonte covered the 3,000-meter (two-mile) course in 12:07,
putting him in second place in the 9/10 boys division to Amin Tufa of the Rain
City Flyers. LaPonte and Tufa have developed a friendly rivalry, as they
have traded the one-two spot throughout the season.
LaPonte’s next cross-country meet will be the PNW Track and
Field Association’s Championship Meet at Woodland Park on Saturday, Nov. 13.
Foundation looks for teen, adult volleyball players for trip to Europe
The Sports for Youth Foundation Inc. is currently accepting
applications from boys and girls ages 15 to 18 who are accomplished volleyball
players and who wish to represent the U.S. in the 2000 Goodwill
Ambassadors World Tour.
The year 2000 marks the 18th year that Goodwill Ambassadors has
conducted world tours for junior volleyball players. This year’s tour will
visit London, Paris, Geneva, Venice and Rome and will serve as both a
cultural and athletic enrichment program. Interested players should register
no later than Dec. 31.
The Foundation is also accepting applications for the “Adult
Euro-Volley-Bash” volleyball tour to Europe. Established for adults age 21 or
over, the tour is for accomplished volleyball players who want to
sight-see, play volleyball and meet new people.
Over a two-week period in June 2000, you could be playing
volleyball in London, Paris, Venice and Rome. The deadline for applications is
Feb. 20, 2000, or when 20 players _ 10 women and 10 men _ have been
accepted for this year’s tour.
