SNOQUALMIE – Nate Short and Jeff MacNichols maintained their close leads over incumbent City Council members Marcia Korich and Dick Kirby as more of the absentee ballots were counted last week.

As of Nov. 14, Short (525 votes, 51.02 percent) was leading Korich (504 votes, 48.98 percent) and MacNichols (530 votes, 52.53 percent) was leading Kirby (479 votes, 47.47 percent). That count includes all of the polls and 98 percent of the absentee vote.

The votes will be certified Nov. 19 after the Valley Record goes to press.

Although the vote is close, it will not warrant a recount unless the margin of the final count is even slimmer. In order for a vote to be recounted, the margin between candidates must be less than half of a percent. The closest race in Snoqualmie, Short and Korich, has a difference of a little more than 2 percent.

Any new City Council members will be sworn in in January.
