Mount Si girls thump Cedarcrest Red Wolves

The Mount Si Wildcats unleashed a suffocating defense on their home court last week as they ripped Valley rival Cedarcrest High School 54-18 in Kingco 3A girls’ basketball action. The win set up last Friday’s showdown against Issaquah for the division lead.
The Wildcats were led by senior post Nicci Landdeck’s game-high 17 points, and sophomore guard Rachel Travis’ 12 points. The big story of the night was the Wildcats’ unbeatable defense.
Mount Si double- and triple-teamed Cedarcrest ball handlers all night, and that suffocating pressure forced the Red Wolves to turn the ball over 32 times. Mount Si coach Dirk Hansen is looking for more of that pressure down the road.
“We have been working very hard in practice on getting more physical because we have some awful tough games down the road, you know, Bellevue, not that Cedarcrest is a pushover,” said Hansen. “Cedarcrest is a good basketball team, they’re well coached and those girls play hard.
“Tonight it was our night and we expect a good battle from Cedarcrest when we go up there later in the year, but we need to prepare for Issaquah, Skyline, Bellevue and Mercer Island and the rest of our January schedule, because it doesn’t get any easier. We’ve got some tough games ahead of us,” he added.
