Chief Kanim defeats Mann

Chief Kanim Middle School’s seventh grade football team

defeated a scrappy Mann team 34-6 last Tuesday at Chief Kanim. The Hawks

had great success on both the defensive and offensive sides of the ball with

an aggressive defense that stopped Mann’s running game, and an

effective offense that put 34 points on the scoreboard.

Stu Trombley started off the game with a 42-yard touchdown

scamper and then kicked in the extra point to make the score 8-0. Erik

Alexander then threw a seven yard touchdown pass to Corey Lindberg to make

the score 14-0. After that, Dane Portscheller blasted into the end

zone for a four yard touchdown run making the score 20-0.

Mann scored a touchdown just five seconds into the second

quarter to make the halftime score 20-6. Erik Alexander started off the third

quarter by throwing a nine-yard touchdown pass to Nick Dietch. Trombley

added the extra point. He then finished off the scoring with a 25-yard

touchdown run making the final score 34-6. Brandon Reaves and Portscheller led

an aggressive defensive charge to hold Mann to 6 points.

Coach Blake and Coach Boyer were extremely proud of the

Hawks. The Hawks are now 4-0 and travel to Suprise Lake this week.

SMS defeats Keithly

The Snoqualmie Middle School junior-varsity football team

improved its record to 2-2 with a win over Keithly last week, final score 14-13.

The Eagles began the game with a 40-yard screen pass completion

from Kyle Meuli to Cody Hyatt. Three plays later, the Eagles converted it into

a touchdown. The remainder of the half was a battle, with each team’s

defense shutting down their opponent’s offense.

In the second half, each team’s defense proved too much and

didn’t allow much offensive power. Late in the third quarter, Keithly took

advantage of an Eagle fumble and scored a touchdown three plays later.

Both teams were shut down in the fourth quarter and the game went into

overtime, the opposing teams tied 7-7.

In the first series of overtime, both teams failed to score. Yet in the

second series, Hyatt scored on a sweep to the outside and Beau Davis

converted the extra point. Though Keithly scored during its possession, the

Eagle defense shut down the extra point attempt and walked away with a

14-13 victory.

Keithley at Chief Kanim

Chief Kanim Middle School’s 8th grade football team hosted Keithley

on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

The game started with Keithley taking the ball right down the field

to score. The conversion was good and Keithley led 7-0. The Hawks

drove down the field themselves and were stopped on the 3 yard line. The

half ended at 7-0.

In the second half, the large and fast Keithley team wore down

the Hawks. The final score ended at 25-0. Nick Bennett, Pete Yore and

Zach Elmer all had fumble recoveries for the Hawks. Leading CKMS in

tackles were Chris Nevins with 10, Jimmie Henrie with 7, and Bryan Wylet

and Erik Tierney, each with 5. The Hawks will host White River next

Wednesday.
