Seventh grade defeats Tolt
The seventh-grade Snoq-ualmie Middle School girls’
basketball team played its best game of the year and defeated Tolt
for the first time by a score of 20-10. In the latter three quarters,
the girls played very well. Tricia Conway led the team with
her hustle, numerous rebounds and four points. It was a great
effort, with Erin Dunklee, Allyson Rosman, Tara Eddings,
Karli McCaskill, Brianna Westergren and Jenny Daley all scoring.
The eighth-grade team won 25-23 in overtime against Tolt,
as well. Leah Coffey led the team with her great defense and a
team-high of 10 points. Joan Krona and Meaghan Dunklee also
played great games. The girls played well in the third quarter, but let
Tolt back into the game in the fourth. However, perseverance paid
off and the girls pulled out the win in overtime.
Girls defeat Tolt
The seventh-grade Eagles girls’ basketball team
swooped down again on Tolt last week, winning 28-17.
Robyn Pearson and Chelsey Potoshnik combined for 18 of
the Eagles’ points, while Erin Caldwell cleaned the glass
for seven rebounds.
The Eagles answered every Thunderbird challenge
with scrappy defense from Collette Hatch. In the second half,
Hatch actually had two steals in five seconds.
Carmen Dunford and Lindsay Florence nabbed rebounds in
the first half. The bench of the Eagles prepared the team for this win
over a very tough Thunderbird team.

Tolt records win
The Tolt Thunderbirds eighth-grade girls’
basketball team put together a very solid defensive effort and some
good half-court offense to record a win over Chief Kanim 27-18.
In the two teams’ last meeting, Chief Kanim had scored
38 points. This affected Tolt’s strategy, which was to pressure
the Hawk guards, play good team defense and rebound.
“The entire team had a role in this victory,” said coach
Vern Hough. “Kelsi Coltom played a huge role with full-court
pressure on Chief Kanim’s ball handlers. I know she frustrated them and
took them out of their offense.”
Point guard Betsy Westerman had her best game, dishing
out seven assists and scoring five points. Westerman had only
one turnover for the game.
“Betsy had to play more point than normal because Ali
Williams was in foul trouble. If we were hitting more shots, I’m sure
she would have had 10 or 12 assists,” Hough said.
Kimberly Hunter played great defense and pulled down
four boards. Ashleigh Hellard sank a three-pointer while
Emily Hendrickson, Shantel Rasmussen, Monica Williams and Anne
Sloate played sound team defense.
Kimmy Drew had five steals and a team-high seven
rebounds. Top scorer was Diane McKenney with eight on some great
perimeter shooting. She also added five boards and three assists.
