Beaver Lake defeats Tolt

The Tolt Middle School eighth-grade varsity basketball team suffered a loss to Beaver Lake Middle School on March 6 by a score of 71-29.

High scorers were Jeff Eldred, Anthony Sanelli and Ben Brooks with six points apiece. Preston Steele had five.

On March 8 the team played Pine Lake Middle School. The players came close to a win, but were unable to pull it off. Pine Lake beat Tolt 49-27.

Sanelli and Steele were leading scorers again with six and five points respectively.

Chief Kanim still undefeated

The seventh-grade varsity basketball team defeated a scrappy Maywood team on March 6 55-27 by using a suffocating defense and an effective press breaker to finish off Maywood.

The stars of the game were Dane Portscheller with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Tylor Littlejohn with eight points and 10 rebounds. Coach Christopher Blake was pleased with his team’s intensity and said that in addition to the rest of the individual players racking up assists, Corey Lindberg and Timmy Coleman supplied the team with excellent hustle.

The CKMS seventh-graders supplied their coach with a repeat performance on March 8 when they beat Issaquah Middle School 43-35.

Nick Dietsch led with 12 points, and Ryan Reilly and Littlejohn scored 11 each. This win brought the Hawks to a 5-0 season record.

7th graders are unstoppable

Snoqualmie Middle School’s seventh-graders had two victories to write home about last week. On Tuesday, they took a bite out of the Beaver Lake Bulldogs when they pulled themselves out of a six-point, first-quarter deficit. Kevin Englund led the way with 14 points, and Josh Williams had seven. Blake Kinghorn, Travis Dalke and Jacob Wirth teamed up against the 6-foot-tall Beaver Lake center, helping to secure the final score of 38-26.

On Thursday, the Eagles rallied again with some composure at the free-throw line that led them to a 37-32 victory over Issaquah. In the first quarter, the Eagles closed the gap by seven points as Kyle Meuli supplied three, three-point shots. In the second quarter, Issaquah trailed by one point but Meuli came through again, hitting two, three-pointers.

Englund and Kinghorn worked the front line until they fouled out Issaquah’s toughest player with only two minutes left in the game. The team was down four points by this time, but Englund sank both free throws securing a win for the Eagles. They are now 5-1 and face Tolt on March 22.

Eagles lose to Chief Kanim

The Snoqualmie Middle School’s seventh-grade junior-varsity basketball team lost narrowly in overtime to Chief Kanim on Thursday 28-26. It was an improvement from the team’s last game, which left them 11 points behind Chief Kanim just the week before. Beau Davis led with eight points for SMS.

Nail biter for SMS Eagles

The Snoqualmie Middle School’s eighth-grade junior-varsity basketball team lost to Chief Kanim Thursday 47-34. SMS’s Jimmy Gee’s athletic ability propelled him to 14 points, but was not enough to save the team. Chief Kanim took over in the final minutes and widened the close point spread.

SMS soccer nets win

The Snoqualmie Middle School girls’ soccer team posted a win against Hudtloff Middle School on March 5.

Striker Whitney Chelgren scored the first goal within five minutes of the opening kick, and Tove Garhart snapped up the second goal shortly before the half. Eagle offense dominated throughout the game, and with Hudtloff barely able to penetrate past the midfield, the Eagles closed out the game with a 2-0 win.

The Eagles played host two days later to Ford Middle School, a team that SMS beat the week before 5-0. With a repeat in mind, Snoqualmie took to the field, and shut down Ford’s offense. But Snoqualmie was unable to score despite keeping the ball in front of the Ford goal the entire time and the game resulted in a scoreless tie.

SMS beats Enumclaw

The SMS’s girls’ soccer team took on Thunder Mountain Middle School in Enumclaw last Monday and won. The SMS Eagles remained scoreless until 26 minutes into the game, but Jeannie Frantz came through for the team to bring the score to 2-1.

The Eagles were down a goal at halftime after TMMS scored two points. When they returned to play, SMS’s Whitney Chelgren tied the score on a driving goal.

Kayla Jayne had two goals, Chelgren had one more and Bethany Jackson scored one. Goal keeper Jordan Tipton prevented Thunder Mountain from making any more goals during the second half and held them at two. Final score was 6-2.
